Doing a doctorate at the IIT represents a unique opportunity to develop a quality research, connected with the interests of the industry, in collaboration with other international centers of recognized prestige, and in a positive environment, where teamwork and cooperation between its members are encouraged to reach the maximum excellence. In addition, during the last years the IIT has undergone a very remarkable internationalization process, which has placed it as a reference research center in sectors such as the electric power industry or the railway. Therefore, there is a growing demand for people interested in doing the doctorate PhD thesis at the IIT and benefit from the advantages that this entails.
Since the places available under categories A and B, described above, may be limited depending on the situation of every year, the IIT offers the category Trainee Researcher Assistant Type C to accommodate students who wish to undertake their PhD thesis at the IIT and can find by themselves the required financial support to covere the doctorate fee: through scholarship programs, both in their countries of origin and from other international institutions, research grant programs, financing sources associated with possible agreements between Comillas and other institutions, etc.
Under this category, the student should choose one of the lines of research of the institute, although it is also possible to explore other proposals, as long as there is a mutual interest.
In order to be selected as a Research Assistant Type C, the student must fulfill the following requirements:
- To meet the requirements to access a PhD program.
- To submit a short essay, between 3500 and 4000 words, where the candidate explains the reasons for choosing the IIT as a doctorate research center, including a draft research plan to be completed in 3 years.
- To submit 2 letters of recommendation from university doctor professors, highlighting the candidate's suitability for the proposed line of research.
- To submit a standard format CV. Having previously published in magazines with impact factor will be positively valued.
- To submit all documents through the next link to be assessed by the IIT Management Committee.
- A letter will be sent to the applicant informing whether or not is been admitted as a Research Assistant Trainee Researcher Type C. The final admission is subject to the approval of the Comillas International Doctoral School.
If admitted by the IIT, the student must apply for formal admission to the doctoral program corresponding the chosen research line and mention in the ?motivation letter? that he or she has been selected by the IIT.
After admission to the doctoral program, the student must pay the required fees (can be found in the website of each program:
As a Research Assistant Type C a workspace will be assigned to the student, that is why the number of this type of researchers will be subject to space availability.
The research will be supervised by one or two professors/researchers members of IIT and regularly assessed. Finally, as a student at Comillas, he or she will have free access to all the services offered by the University (Sports, Cultural Activities, Library, etc.).
