Smart and Sustainable Mobility

The [Kapsch Chair for a Smart and Sustainable Mobility] (https://www.comillas.edu/catedras-de-investigacion/catedra-kapsch/) within the [Institute for Technology Research (IIT)](https://www.iit.comillas.edu/index.php.en) at Comillas University in Madrid, Spain, offers a PhD scholarship to carry out research on sustainable mobility, to start in September 2024 or earlier. IIT is a leading institution in the analysis of energy systems, including transport, and the Kapsch Chair has been recently instituted to deepen our research in this fascinating field.

The objective of this research project is to analyze mobility patterns, assess the effect of different policies and instruments for mobility and their consequences on emissions or traffic congestion, and propose changes or alternatives to the instruments assessed, in order to achieve a smarter and more sustainable mobility.

The results of the research shall be used to provide policy recommendations, and will therefore need to be communicated to and discussed effectively with the relevant stakeholders. In order to achieve the PhD degree, they must also be published in relevant academic journals. Finally, the PhD candidate must help in administrative tasks within the Chair (organizing workshops and contributing to our regular publications). Research will be directed by [Prof. Pedro Linares] (https://www.iit.comillas.edu/people/pedrol).

Requirements

We look for highly motivated candidates, with an excellent background in Engineering, Physics, or Economics (with a Master degree or equivalent), with an outstanding academic record, capable of working autonomously and as part of a team. Research will be carried out in English, so a very good knowledge of it is required. In addition, knowledge of Spanish is strongly recommended, given that it is the working language of the Institute and the way to communicate results to the Spanish audience. We will also consider knowledge of economic analysis, optimization, and energy systems, as well as data analysis, computer programming, and communication skills.

Application materials must be sent to pedro.linares@comillas.edu, and must include: a cover letter, CV, complete academic transcripts for undergraduate and graduate studies, language proficiency certificates, and three letters of reference from professors of graduate courses or supervisors of research. Review of applications will begin immediately, and will continue until the position is awarded.
