Towards a Socially Responsible Hydrogen Economy: exploring site selection criteria in Spain

Green hydrogen will be a key component of future energy systems. Spain has a unique opportunity to produce this energy vector thanks to its excellent renewable resources. However, how and where a hydrogen economy will emerge depends on many factors and developments that are still poorly understood. This Master's thesis will address this question by studying the spatial factors that influence hydrogen production. The focus will be on social criteria that may outweigh other economic, technical and environmental criteria in determining the optimal location of hydrogen production capacity in Spain. The results of this study will provide relevant information for policy makers and business decisions in the energy sector as they prepare for the transition to a sustainable and equitable hydrogen economy.
