High-voltage DC (HVDC) transmission plays a major role in long-distance power transmission and offshore RES integration. Currently, HVDC converters are operated in grid-following mode, which requires the existence of an active grid imposing a voltage to which the converter is synchronized through a PLL (thus following a grid or its voltage). The grid-forming mode imposes both voltage and frequency and congruently, it does not require to follow a grid but rather forms the grid. Grid forming controls may interact with the DC voltage controls of HVDC converters. The project aims at implementing grid-forming controls on HVDC converters as well as solution that mitigate the interaction of the grid-forming and DC voltage controls.
