Biography:
David Ulrich Ziegler, born 1989 in Germany, received his B.Eng. in Energy Management from Reinhold-Würth-Hochschule (Germany) in 2013. In 2016 he obtained his M.Eng. in Energy Engineering from UPC Barcelona and his M.Sc. in Electrical Engineering from KTH Stockholm as part of the European master program from EIT (European Institute of Innovation and Technology). Between his graduate and post-graduate studies, David worked as a project engineer for one of the most innovative multi-utility companies in Germany as well as the leading EPCC company in renewable energy in South-East Asia. Before starting his position as PhD student at the Institute for Research in Technology at Comillas Pontifical University, David worked as a self-employed management consultant, supporting distribution system operators in the fields of cyber-security, digitalization for critical infrastructure and applied research for the energy transition. As a PhD student, David works, together with IIT and the Joint Research Center (JRC) in Ispra, on topics of “smart and sustainable grids”. His research centers around the planning of distribution grids for long-term scenarios with high shares of distributed energy resources.
