Biography:
Santos is currently pursuing his Ph.D. in Power Systems at the University of Comillas in Spain, under the supervision of Ignacio Pérez-Arriaga, and holds a B.Sc. in Industrial Engineering from the Universidad Politécnica de Madrid and the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT) in Germany, and a double M.SC. in Industrial Engineering / Energy Sector from the University of Comillas.
He is currently an affiliate researcher in the Energy Systems Regulation area at the Institute for Research in Technology (IIT). His focus is on developing adaptive financial models and regulatory strategies to implement electrification plans in developing countries in LATAM, Sub-Saharan Africa, and Southeast Asia. His footprint in the energy sector is reflected in his consulting engagements in several countries, where he has worked with governments, international institutions, and a range of development finance institutions, including the World Bank, IADB, GIZ, and the Rockefeller Foundation. At the Spanish TSO, Red Eléctrica de España, Santos managed the generation and demand data of the Spanish power system, integrating asset transactions within the electricity market. Before visiting MIT, Santos worked at the asset manager Impact Bridge, where he helped build their investment pipeline, created financial models, and conducted rigorous due diligence processes leading to the new Impact Debt Investment Fund vehicle.
