Feasibility study of energy crop bioethanol production and utilization as transport fuel

June 2005 - June 2006

Funding entity Ministerio de Educación y Ciencia

The main goal of this project is to prove the feasibility and the benefits of using ethanol from biomass as fuel, in conventional engines and in fuel cells. New agroenergetical crops are going to be tested in order to reduce the cost of the ethanol production as well as the energy balance and environmental impact. The control of the fermentation proceess is going to be improved in order to reduce the acetic acid anomalous production. The bioethanol is going to be mixed with diesel oil in order to to improve the combustion characteristicsa and tested in a captive buses fleet. The new catalizar has been developed in order to use bioethanol as fuel in futere fuel cells
