Optimal traffic regulation and energy saving train speed commands

A. Fernández-Cardador A.P. Cucala A. Ramos

March 2006 - March 2007

Funding entity Metro de Madrid, S.A.

In this project new methods are developed in order to improve the traffic management in Metro de Madrid. The main goal is to increase quality and automation of traffic operation, as well as to consider energy saving criteria.
The first phase is focused on real time traffic regulation, to improve mainly the transients. An algorithm will be designed to control this process in an efficient way. In the second phase, a software prototype will be developed to asses the optimal design of energy-saving train speed commands. Finally, a model will be designed to optimise the coincidence of train traction and braking for timetable operation.
