Master on Electrical Industry Regulation

February 2007 - February 2008

Funding entity FUNGLODE

Participated by Mercados Energéticos

Network industries and infrastructures are subject worldwide to more market mechanisms than ever. While responding to these competitive signals and incentives, they still have to deliver their basic services with a reasonable guarantee of supply. To achieve this, these industries and infrastructures are being liberalised and re-regulated throughout the world creating a need for industries and public institutions in order to hire skilled professionals who are capable of understanding these processes and participating actively in their management and regulation.
ICAI School of Engineering has a long tradition in the education of professionals and researchers for the Electricity Sector, the field of activities where most of the ICAI engineers work nowadays, from technological positions to the top executives of the corporate management. Specifically, its Instituto de Investigación Tecnológica (IIT) has a long tradition in the regulation and management of the electricity sector, and it has carried out hundreds of research projects for electricity utilities and regulatory institutions in more than 15 countries in Europe, Asia and Latin America, on the design of electricity markets, the operation and planning of electricity utilities and electricity networks, tariff design, etc. It has also participated in several European projects for DGTren and DGResearch on electricity market regulation and the environmental impacts of energy.
The Master Course trains the students as highly qualified professionals who are able to manage and regulate the electricity Industry. Our master students will simultaneously learn the regulation and the economics principles which are relevant to the Electricity Sector. Usually, these skills are acquired separately while in practice they have to be used together to achieve both technical and economical efficiency in the Electricity Sector.
