Summary:

This paper presents the MADEA model. It uses chronological stochastic simulation techniques in order to emulate medium- and long-term optimal operation under uncertain conditions. Operator’s decisions are internalised in the model to perform a realistic system representation. They are assumed to be optimal decisions taken without precise information about the future. MADEA reproduces the system operation though a hierarchical structure including yearly, weekly and hourly submodels. A representative states selection technique has been used to reduce computing time. A case study is presented showing the model behaviour in a large-scale electric power system.

Keywords: Hydrothermal coordination, hydrothermal scheduling, hierarchical production planning.
