Summary:

Emergency Operation Procedures (EOP) are a set of guidelines that must be applied by the operators when the security of a nuclear power plant is threatened by an anomalous condition. This paper describes SASPOE, an expert system that is able to provide support in the application of the EOP in a BWR nuclear power plant. SASPOE takes care of monitoring important plant parameters, activating the appropriate EOP, scheduling control actions and assisting the operator in the decision-making process concerning the emergency.
