November 2003 - October 2004

Funding entity Iberdrola Generación

The main objective of the project is the development of a software application complementary and compatible with the software environment existing in the Centre for Monitoring and Diagnosis of Combined-Cycle power plants (CC) belonging to IBERDROLA and located in Castellon (Spain). The application has to reach the following objectives:

1. Detection of anomalies in the main CC components using models of normal behaviour as reference to detect when an abnormal behaviour is present. These models are based in real data taken from the operation of the plant. Their inputs and outputs are selected according to the possible failure modes to be detected.

2. Diagnosis and identification of the root causes of the anomalies detected according to knowledge acquired from the operation experience and from the design of the CC components.

This software tool will improve the operation of the CC, its maintenance and availability because can predict the anomalies when the first symptoms appear and possible actions would be suggested to be performed to eliminate or mitigate the problem. Also, monitoring the degradation of the main CC variables can improve its efficiency.
