Automatic water elimination in diesel-fuel filters

June 2001 - December 2001

Funding entity Robert Bosch

Diesel-cycle engines are provided with diesel-fuel filters the role of which includes the elimination of the residual water contained in the fuel before injection in the cylinders. The injectors are, in fact, prone to be damaged by the presence of water in the fuel. For this reason, filters are provided with a water chamber where the excess humidity is collected and stored. When the chamber is full it is emptied manually. The aim of the ElimA I project is to study the problem in order to propose possible solutions to the problem of automatic water elimination, with a view to designing a maintenance-free system.
