Resumen:
Power Line Communications (PLC) have been a field for research for last decades. Nevertheless, due to the severe attenuation and harsh environment of the PLC channel, this technology never reached its full potential. However, Power Line Communications are attracting once again the attention of the scientific and industrial communinity since they are seen as a natural communication medium for Smart Grid's applications.
This thesis addresses two of the main open issues for current narrowband Power Line Communication technologies: first, propose modifications and techniques that increase the performance in impulsive noise scenarios; and second, develop a simulation tool that, considering all physical phenomena, provide the expected system's performance in terms of end-to-end communication's latencies.
